" There really is only one choice and it is NOT to go directly to the Car Rental agencies or to their booths at the airport. Go to: Car Rental Companies They will rent you a nearly-new car for less than 1/2 the price you will get by going to the companies directly. I paid $13/day for a new ToyotaYaris. As someone mentioned, your Credit card should cover thecost of the basic insurance the rental agency would otherwise charge you and additional $12/day for. Most Credit Cards do but some don't. You will want to pay the rental company and additional $12-13/day for 3rd-party liability insurancehowever, but that brings your daily, fully insured, cost to$26/day. If you go to the companies directly, even online, you will pay twice that. You will pay even more if you rent it at the airport."

No, not usually.

As mentioned above by the experienced car renter: your credit card may cover collision damage insurance (verify this with your issuing credit card company, before arriving).

Another option is to check with your car insurance company at home. You may be able to purchase a rider from them to be covered on your car rental.

What License do I Need for Car Rental Panama Companies?

Yes it is. But so is your drivers license from the US/Canada/Europe if you are here on a 30-day tourist card. Your license will be valid for 30 days. After that, you have to go down to the office where they issue drivers licenses and get a temporary permit that basically expires when your tourist card expires.
